Inclusive DRR and Climate Actions

Disasters and climate change affect everyone, but persons with disabilities face unique challenges in accessing early warning systems, emergency response, and resilience-building efforts. Inclusive disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate action ensure that people with disabilities are not only protected but also actively participate in decision-making and preparedness strategies. At Blind Youth Association Nepal (BYAN), we work to integrate disability-inclusive approaches into DRR and climate action initiatives, ensuring no one is left behind in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.

Our Approach

We advocate for policies and programs that recognize the needs and contributions of persons with disabilities in disaster preparedness and climate resilience. Through awareness campaigns, training programs, and collaboration with stakeholders, we strengthen the capacity of young people with disabilities to engage in DRR and climate actions at the community and national levels.

Our Key Interventions

  • Awareness Raising: We conduct community awareness campaigns to highlight the importance of inclusive DRR and climate resilience, ensuring that disability-related challenges and solutions are recognized in disaster management plans.
  • Capacity Enhancement: We provide training and capacity-building programs for young people with disabilities, equipping them with knowledge and skills to actively participate in disaster preparedness and climate action initiatives.
  • Advocacy for Inclusive Policies: We work with government agencies, disaster response teams, and climate action organizations to advocate for inclusive policies and programs that address the specific needs of persons with disabilities in disaster risk management and climate resilience strategies.

Our Impact

Through our initiatives, we have contributed to increased awareness and policy discussions on disability-inclusive DRR and climate actions. By empowering persons with disabilities as active stakeholders, we are building a more resilient and inclusive society where everyone has an equal opportunity to prepare for and respond to disasters and climate challenges.

A disaster-resilient society is an inclusive society, and we are committed to ensuring that persons with disabilities are part of the solution.
