Health Equity, Including SRHR and Mental Health

Access to healthcare is a fundamental right, yet many youth with disabilities face significant barriers in receiving inclusive and accessible health services. At Blind Youth Association Nepal (BYAN), we advocate for equitable healthcare that recognizes and addresses the unique needs of persons with disabilities, particularly in sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) and mental health. Our efforts focus on raising awareness, building capacity, and strengthening healthcare systems to ensure inclusive health services for all.

Our Approach

We work at multiple levels to improve access to healthcare for youth with disabilities. From providing SRHR education and mental health support to training healthcare providers and advocating for inclusive policies, we strive to create a healthcare system that leaves no one behind.

Our Key Interventions

  • Promoting SRHR Knowledge and Awareness: We conduct awareness programs to educate youth with disabilities about their sexual and reproductive health rights, ensuring they have the knowledge to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
  • Developing Inclusive SRHR Materials: We create and promote accessible educational and communication materials on SRHR, ensuring that information is available in formats suitable for persons with disabilities.
  • Training Healthcare Providers: We enhance the capacity of health professionals by providing training on inclusive and accessible SRH services, ensuring they can effectively serve persons with disabilities.
  • Developing Model Health Institutions: We work towards establishing model health institutions that demonstrate best practices in providing inclusive and accessible healthcare services.
  • Policy Advocacy for Inclusive Healthcare: We engage with policymakers and stakeholders to advocate for the development and implementation of disability-inclusive health policies and programs.
  • Strengthening Inclusive Health Services: We collaborate with service providers, government agencies, and other stakeholders to enhance the accessibility and quality of healthcare services for persons with disabilities.

Our Impact

Through our initiatives, we have empowered youth with disabilities with the knowledge and confidence to take charge of their health. By training healthcare providers and advocating for systemic change, we are working towards a future where every person, regardless of ability, has equal access to healthcare services.

A truly inclusive healthcare system ensures dignity, respect, and equal opportunities for all. We are committed to making this a reality.
