Access to Employment and Economic Empowerment

Economic empowerment is key to fostering independence and dignity for youth with disabilities. However, barriers such as inaccessible workplaces, limited skill development opportunities, and lack of inclusive employment policies often prevent them from achieving financial stability. At Blind Youth Association Nepal (BYAN), we work to break these barriers by advocating for inclusive employment, supporting self-employment ventures, and enhancing financial literacy among youth with disabilities.

Our Approach

We focus on equipping youth with disabilities with the skills, resources, and opportunities needed to participate in the workforce. Through vocational training, financial support, and collaborations with employers, we create pathways for sustainable employment and entrepreneurship.

Our Key Interventions

  • Preparatory Classes for Government Jobs: We conduct preparatory classes for the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and Public Service Commission (PSC) to help candidates with disabilities compete in public sector jobs.
  • Accessible Study Materials: We develop TSC books in accessible formats, including audio, to ensure equal learning opportunities.
  • On-the-Job Training: We provide workplace training programs that help youth with disabilities gain practical experience and build professional skills.
  • Professional Development Courses: We offer office secretary training, psychosocial counseling training, and other relevant skill-building programs.
  • Vocational Training: We conduct hands-on vocational training in various fields such as bakery, bamboo production, and other self-employment-friendly skills.
  • Seed Funding for Self-Employment: We provide small-scale financial support to help youth with disabilities start their own businesses.
  • Financial Literacy Training: We offer training on managing finances, budgeting, and entrepreneurship to promote financial independence.
  • Collaboration for Employment Opportunities: We work with private sector companies and non-profits to create internship and employment opportunities for youth with disabilities.

Our Impact

Through our initiatives, many youth with disabilities have gained access to stable jobs, developed businesses, and improved their financial well-being. By fostering a more inclusive job market, we aim to create an environment where disability is not a limitation but a strength in economic participation.

We believe that everyone deserves the right to work and contribute to society. Our commitment to inclusive employment and economic empowerment ensures that youth with disabilities have the opportunities they need to succeed.
