Theme for 2016: "Achieving 17 Goals for the Future We Want"

Since 1992, the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities has been celebrated annually on 3 December around the world. This years theme notes the recent adoption of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the role of these goals in building a more inclusive and equitable world for persons with disabilities.

In Nepal, we celebrated 25th disability day participating in a rally organised by Ministry of women children and social welfare and coordinated by National federation of disabled Nepal. Blind youth association Nepal also actively participated in the rally with a huge participation of Blind and partially sighted youths. Our Guest visitor from Sweden, Board member of MyRight and board member of visually impaired youth Sweden Mr. Hannes Juhlin Lagrelius with Lina was also actively participated in the program. Mr. Hannes was chaired and gave his vote of congratulation along with Health minister Mr. Gagan thapa, various government representatives and DPO leaders.

BYAN is preparing its position paper on education for BPS in 6 districts involving  BPS students, youths , teachers, educators to identify the challenges, support needed areas, appropriate adaptations fitting to the needs of BPS education. Position paper prepared by BYAN through wider consultations both at local and national level itself a rich document that presents the clientele perspective. Dissemination of such perspective is of high importance in the situation where government repeatedly stresses its commitment in BPS education. Once the conceptual understanding among the policy makers and stakeholders built, it will create a conducive environment to consider issues in action.

Technology has been a great milestone for the development of the Blind and partially sighted. It removes barriers, creates solutions, and expands possibilities so people with vision loss can achieve their full potential.

So, Blind youth association Nepal  focuses on the technological betterment for the selected on the job training. Trainer Mr. Khom Raj Sharma an expert on IT education for the blind and a TOT trainer on computer education is taking the class and motivating students for use of IT in every sector.
