On June 23rd, 2018, Blind youth Association Nepal had organized interaction program with government representatives from sub metropolitan of Butwal. This one day program was happened in Butwal Multiple Campus at Butwal.

Program was mainly focused about the act and rules which must be disable friendly so that person with disability can be included in blind friendly education system. Participants from various fields such as teachers, representatives from various organization, blind and partially sighted people were present.

Blind youth Association Nepal had organized Chapter functioning training to all chapters( Kathmandu, Kaski, Jhapa, Morang, Rupendehi, Kailali and Banke) representatives on 14th Jun, 2018 to 16th June, 2018 at ICA training Center, Balkumari kathmandu. Training mainly focused on education, employment and organizational strengthening issues.Participants openly discussed on problems and solutions of each chapters issues. Ms. Parbati Shrestha counseled to  all trainee on psycho-socials aspects. Similarly, Ms Romi Giri and Ms. Shristy Sharma gave short presentation about moon cup ( Mensural Cup). Mr. Sushil Chaudhary facilitated this training by informing about advocacy and disability rights.

Blind Youth Association Nepal (BYAN) has organized first phase psycho-social counseling and need assessment program in 3 integrated Schools(Jalkumari,Shree Saraswati and Amarjoyti Seconday)of mostly earthquake affected district Gorkha Nepal. Program has facilitated by a trained psychosocial counselor Ms. Parwati Shrestha with having representation of secretary of BYAN Mrs.Mina KC. Program was really interactive and productive. Support and enthusiasm of Principal, Resource teacher,brilliant student were really appreciating. We would like to express our huge gratitude to Nepal Earthquake Recovery Fund  ,David Morrall for such a nice collaboration to reaching with BPS Students and find their core problem. As well as we are very thankful to Principal and Resource teachers of all 3 schools for awesome cooperation .

Dear all,

BYAN  heartly invites to all chapters representatives ( one male and one female) to be a part of chapter functioning training. This is 3 days residential training which  is going to held from 14 June to 16 June, 2018( Jestha 31 to Asar 2,2075 B.S). We will spend 3 days training session on ICA training hall at Koteshwor, kathmandu. This program will be fruitful to discuss on ways of strengthening the chapters along with discussion on planning for the future programs according to federal democratic government system.

Blind Youth Association Nepal is producing large print books as a pilot project to ease the education of low vision students. There has been series of meeting with curriculum Development center and Department of education for collecting feedback. We also met students in lalitpur, kaski, Jhapa for the feedback on the book and importance of the book for them. We will pilot by producing English and Nepali of Grade 10.

Blind youth Association Nepal (BYAN) is a national Disabled People's Organization (DPO) working to promote the rights and interest of the Blind and Partially Sighted (BPS) youths. BYAN works in the area of capacity building , Organizational development, employment promotion, awareness raising and advocacy for the blind rights of blind and partially sighted youth.

Job Description

In close collaboration with Manager, the incumbent will be responsible to support for program implementation, project planning, documentation, report writing. The position will provide leadership role in management of the BYAN projects

Specific Responsibilities: 

  • Support Manager to prepare procedural guidelines of projects, and work plans as well as budgets according to project documents
  • Prepare progress reports in close cooperation  with the Manager and Admin Finance Officer
  • Design promotional materials and publish brochures, newsletters of the  organization, and update organization’s web page
  • Assist Manager in day-to-day functioning to mobilize a wide range of stakeholders including  BPS people, DPOs, civil society organisations and interested communities for effective implementation of projects
  • Assist fundraising manager (Resource Development Manager) for project proposal development
  • Support for collection of information, documentation and dissemination
  • Assign various roles to interns and volunteers, supervise them and manage the progress/activities
  • Carry out program implementation and monitoring visits in the project locations, both in and outside the Kathmandu

Job Duration: 1 year with possibility of extension

Blind Youth Association Nepal celebrated its 5th Annual General Assembly on 17 September 2017 (2074 Ashwin), in the presence of Honorable Education State Minister, Mr. Seshnath Adhikari.

During the same event, BYAN also held sessions on the Dissemination of Position Paper on Blind Friendly Education, and Research findings on Quality and Availability of Braille Textbooks to discuss the status of education among the visually impaired students.

Representatives from BYAN's District Chapters, various organizations working in the disability sector as well as media personnel were also present at the program.

Blind Youth Association Nepal (BYAN) conducted a meeting with representatives from Curriculum Development Centre (CDC) and Department of Education on 30 August 2017 (14 Bhadra 2074), to discuss about making the text-books low-vision friendly.

The Executive Director of CDC, Mr. Krishna Prasad Kapri, Deputy Director of  the Department of Education, Mr. Ganesh Prasad Poudel and Deputy Directors of CDC, Ms. Sarala Poudel, Mr. Dharmaraj Tripathi, and Mr. Pushparaj Dhakal along with Mr. Ramchanrda Gaihre, General Secretary, BYAN and Mr. Vishwo Ram Shrestha, Program Manager of BYAN, were present at the meeting which concluded on a note to publish books with appropriate fonts and larger texts and pictures in order to make the books low-vision friendly.
