23rd August,2019. Blind Youth Association Nepal organised its 3rd Election of the central board. New board members are elected .BYAN organized a yearly general assembly for a day which included Central board members, members from nine chapters and guests from various governmental and non-governmental organizations. Our honorable guest “Ministry of law justice and parliamentary affairs minister Mr. Bhanubhakta Dhakal inaugurated the program.
After the opening session, the team headed to the closing session for the electing the new board for BYAN. There are 11 members in the BYAN board.

Our honorable guest “Ministry of law justice and parliamentary affairs minister Mr. Bhanubhakta Dhakal inaugurated the program. He gave an empowering speech mentioning to bring an impactful educational and employment program and policies and Laws for persons with disability (PWDs) especially for blind and partially sighted (BPS) youths in forthcoming days.
12th August,2019- How better to celebrate International Youth Day rather than commemorating the contribution towards youths and of youths. Various organizations and youths from all over Nepal came together last Sunday on the occasion of International Youth Day at Nepal Academy, Kathmandu.
This program was co-organized by National Youth Council and Ministry for youth and Sports and chaired by vice-chair of NYC, Madhav Dhungel. The chief guest for this program was Deputy prime minister and minister for defense, Ishwor Pokharel. The theme of this program was "Transforming education for entrepreneurship and innovation." This event featured various programs including youth dialogue and cultural performances.
Blind Youth Association Nepal(BYAN), located at Sukhedhara Kathmandu, was honored on that program in recognition of its efforts for ensuring 10 minutes additional time per hour for the low vision people in Public Service Commission's exam. BYAN received the award entitled " National Youth Talent Award 2076" in education sector. Eighty blind and partially sighted youths actively participated in rally from Bhrikutimandap to Kamaladi. Further, BYAN took part in the whole day event including its youth dialogue program and cultural programs.

We are extremely glad that we have started the first phase of Master Training for trainers training in Kathmandu with participants (6 forms of disability, Blind , Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Physical disability, Autism and parents with intellectual disabilities) from Bara and Kathmandu For disability inclusive SRHR and FP policies and program in Nepal in support of #FP2020 . Hearing the personal experience on what they have faced and are willing to overcome the challenges they have faced is over whelming. We are extremely thankful to all the supporting DPOs for the successful coordination and support to make this possible. The training for two days went quite well and we are in the third day. #fp2020 #blindyouthnepal
Blind Youth Association Nepal (BYAN) is developing a manual (position paper) regarding disability friendly educational policies and practices targeting local level educational authorities and Disabled Persons Organizations (DPOs). The manual will be a learning tool for respective authorities to develop disability friendly education and policies in their particular area. Therefore, BYAN is currently having a round of meetings with DPO’s to incorporate suggestions and recommendations on their respective disability.
First round of meeting was organized at Hotel Hardik, Bagbazaar in 20th February, 2019 during the meeting we were able to finalize the content of manual .Likewise, second round of meeting was at Green leaf Café Jawalakhel on 2nd June 2019, where we discussed on the contents, ideas and inputs on the 2nd draft of the manual. The Manual now will be finalized and will be public soon.
The First Phase of the training "Disability Inclusive Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights and Family Planning" is going to be held on 6th-8th June, 2019 in Kathmandu (Hardik Hotel) where promoters from Kathmandu and Bara district will be participating. Six different disability group of promoters will be participating in the training which will be based on information dissemination and advocacy and counseling techniques. Each of the promoters will be counseling 8-10 other similar disability categories.
Prioritizing the partially sighted student of grade 10 BYAN developed 1000 set of large print book in English and Nepali coordinating with Curriculum Development Center (CDC). BYAN is distributing these book throughout our district chapter schools: For instance Namuna Macchindra School of Lalitpur annually request book for partially sighted students of grade 10.
Furthermore, BYAN expanded 9th district chapter in Surkhet during the expansion BYAN distributed the large print book in Surkhet for the very first time. They were enthusiastic and jubilant to see the large print books friendly for them for the first time and could think more than just Braille. Here is the picture of two partially sighted women reading the large print book for the first time. They expressed the happiness seeing the words in large font and continued reading the book. Lastly, they requested us to develop large print book in all subjects, which will eventually help partially sighted student to pass S.E.E test.
Blind Youth Association Nepal has been conducting the Basic Office Secretariat Training since 2015. Yet again, BYAN in coordination with SUKALPA International is ready with its 5th batch of Trainees for the Work ready training (On the Job Training).
During the Training, the Trainees will undergo sessions on various topics to sharpen their skills and enhance their knowledge so as to help them prepare for facing the job market with the necessary skills and confidence. We have selected 10 trainees to enhance their employment opportunities for 3 months via Coaching, training and Mentoring services.
